| Longyan City is located in the Southwest of Fujian Province, and is generally calld Mimxi (west of Fujian ), adjacent to Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinc. Its geographical location is between 24°23'-26°02 'of the North Latitude, and 115°51'-117°-44 'of the East Longitude. Longyan covers an area of 19028.3 km² with a population of 2.8589 million, having Xinluo District, Zhangping city, and the 5 counties of Changting, Yiongding, Shanghang, Wuping and Liancheng under its jurisdiction.The Hakka dialect is predominating in Longyan except the urban area of Longyan and the city of Zhangping. Longyan is one of Fujian's major ancestral home for overseas Chinese.
The major products in Minxi include rice, cash crops like tobaccos and tea, and subtropical fruits. Among these products, the tobacco, orange, honey peach, dried sweet potatoes, and salty peanuts have a bright development prospects. The major industrial products are coal, cement, farm vehicles, cigarettes, timbers, gold and rosin.
The chief scenic spots in Minxi are: the State-Spot-Guanzhai Mount in Liancheng, the Level-A National Nature Preserve-Mount Meihua, the historic reservation of the State Council-the site of Gutian Congress, the unique Yongding Earthen Castle, the Longkong Cave in Xinluo, and the mother river of the Hakka-the Tingjiang River Tourist Zone, and so on. All these combined form the “seven in one” traveling network of longyan , which is the complexity of “one castle, one mountain ,one cave, one site , one city, one zone and river.
Yongding Hakka Earth Buildings
Yongding Earth Buildings are called the World’s Unique Mountain Villagers’ Residence and the mysterious oriental ancient castles.
In Yongding County of Minxi, these earth buildings distribute along the mountains and rivers, forming a beautiful, unsophisticated and marvelous picture. Among all the residences in the world, Yongding Earth Buildings are famous for its long history, unique style, grand scale, ingenious structure, complete function, and rich culture. It is known as one of China’s five traditional folk residences, the other four are Siheyuan in Beijing, cave dwelling in Shanxi, parapet-style in Guangxi, and Yikeyin in Yunnan, and deserves the fame of “a fancy ancient architecture in China”.
Yongding Hakka Earth Building is rich in culture. Its architecture technique can trace its history back to ancient central China’s residence. Normally, a clan of people shares one building, which reflects the traditional notion of Hakka people. Inside these buildings, there are many meaningful couplets and inscriptions. The wedding ceremonies, mourning ceremonies, their ethic, religion, and belief, all present Hakka people’s simple and unsophisticated folk and China’s civilization.
Guanzhai Mountain
Guanzhai Mountain, the National Key and Grade 4A Tourist Area in China, is located in Liancheng County.
The scenic area of Guanzhai Mountain covers an area of 123 square kilometers. In 1986, it was honoured as “ the best ten scenic spots of Fujian Province”. In 1994, it was approved by the State Counsel as a key scenic spot in China. In 2000, it was listed as the Grade 4A tourist area. The whole scenic resort consists of five scenic spots: Guanzhai Mountain, Shimen Lake, Zhu’an Stockaded Village, Qishi Stockaded Village and Jiulong Lake.
Now Guanzai, Shimen lake and Zhu’an Stockaded Village have already been open to the tourists for quite a long time, and Qishi Stockaded Village and Jiulong Lake are under development.
Gutian Congress Site
Gutian is the Holy Land of Chinese revolution. It’s the center of the Minxi Revolutionary Base Area during the Second Revolutionary Civil War, and it’s where the famous Gutian Congress was held.
